It's a Thor: The Dark World buffet worthy of an Asgardian diner!

Not only has director Alan Taylor revealed that The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon put his prints on several scenes of the Thor sequel, but he's also talking about the visual differences between his take on the God of Thunder and its predecessor.  And for the visual learners out there, Marvel Studios has also dropped a slightly tweaked extended trailer for this November's cosmic romp.

Great Odin's Raven!

We've got character posters from this November's Thor: The Dark World, but on none of them will you find Chris Hemsworth as the titular Asgardian.  Instead, these three new posters promoting the upcoming sequel sidestep the Asgardian Avenger in favor of his father and adopted brother, played once again by Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston.

Robert Downey Jr. is, of course, the resident rock star of the Marvel Studios universe, but he's getting plenty of competition from Tom Hiddleston as Loki, who has emerged as a fan favorite, the kind of villain you don't entirely want to see lose.

Thor: The Dark World is just two months off, but we recently learned that additional photography added even more God of Mischief material into the sequel, which finds Chris Hemsworth and Hiddleston in an uneasy truce following Loki's full-blown villainy in The Avengers.

No less a source than Hiddleston himself has revealed some new insight on the nature of these Loki-centric reshoots, which he says ensure that the Thor sequel isn't just putting "the old recipe in the microwave."

As summer closes out, Marvel Studios is cranking up its promotion for Thor: The Dark World, which continues Phase Two in theaters on November 8th.

The latest examples of sequel promotion are two new character posters featuring Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston as the gods of thunder and mischief.

A bumper crop of exceedingly pretty stills from Thor: The Dark World have descended upon the internet today.  All fourteen official images included here suggest that incoming director Alan Taylor has upped the ante visually from Thor's first theatrical outing.

Everybody loves Tom Hiddleston as Loki.  In both Thor and The Avengers, Loki hit just the right villainous note, going arch enough to be a proper villain, but also showing just enough vulnerability that he doesn't become a mustache-twirler.

Everybody loves Loki, so Thor: The Dark World ought to please everybody, since Marvel Studios is juicing the sequel with even more of the God of Mischief.  Not only that, but it turns out jumbo-sized Loki will be on international IMAX screens early, as Thor's next adventure will arrive in 3D IMAX a week before the domestic release.

If you had any doubts that Thor: The Dark World will expand the scope and heighten the action of its predecessor, a new theatrical trailer for the Marvel Studios sequel puts those doubts to bed.

So right now, San Diego is packed to the gills with fans lathered up about many big movies that won't actually see release until next summer.

With Pacific Rim in theaters, you don't have to wait a year.  Guillermo del Toro's most ambitious film to date is an earnest adventure with a sense of humor, staggering spectacle, and stakes that aren't built around grim solemnity.  It's a blast.

Pacific Rim is now rampaging across conventional and IMAX screens in 2D and 3D nationwide.

If you're still on the fence about Guillermo del Toro's monsters vs. mechs epic, or conversely if you're too excited to contain your squeals of delight, then one final clip has landed online, giving a sense of what makes del Toro's approach so special.

Pacific Rim is just days away from thundering into theaters this Friday, July 12th.

More than any other movie this summer, Guillermo del Toro's monster mash sells the impossible size of its spectacle.  So it's fitting that the latest featurette isn't the usual three or four minute peek behind the scenes, but is instead a fifteen-minute monster making-of joint.  Also fitting that we have not one or two TV spots packed with critical praise and stunning imagery, but three Pacific Rim thirty-second spots.
